Review of Animal (hindi)

Animal is fine story-telling, and that is what it does best. The hook of the movie is a father-son relationship. The son worships his father, and this dynamic is what propels the story further. But under the surface there are many problematic themes, the most jarring being perpetration of senseless violence. There are many others that would take up the space of the entire review if enumerated in detail. However, from an audience's perspective you buy into it because the movie does everything with so much conviction. I got chills every time the background music of the main characters came on. The characters were well-fleshed out. So much so, that whenever the main character came on screen, I had to take a breather because everything he did was infuriating. What I didn't like was the final segment of the movie which felt like an unnecessary add-on and a gimmick for the film-makers to milk a cash cow. All in all, props to telling a story that spoke to audiences. If the intention of the film-maker was to rile up 'woke' audiences, it has done so with panache.
